Automotive market shifts toward SUVs as station wagon sales face pressure
The European automotive market is seeing a divergence between consumer preference and vehicle type availability. While station wagons are noted for their practicality and fuel efficiency due to lower air resistance, manufacturers are increasingly prioritizing the production of SUVs, which offer a higher driving position and a sense of security favored by many buyers.
In the Czech Republic, Volvo dealers are offering significant discounts to clear stock of the V90 station wagon, a model facing a high SUV-to-wagon ratio in manufacturer lineups. For example, some plug-in hybrid V90 models have seen price reductions of nearly one million CZK.
Simultaneously, the Skoda Octavia remains a competitive option in the compact segment. New configurations of the Octavia liftback are being made available for under 100,000 PLN in Poland, featuring a 1.5 TSI engine producing 115 horsepower.
