Automotive markets see shifting import trends and consumer preferences

Automotive market trends show significant shifts in both Albania and Switzerland. In Albania, new vehicle imports have declined, with August registrations falling by 10% compared to the previous year. South Korea and China remain the primary sources of imports, while traditional markets like Germany and Italy have seen a decrease in dominance. Notably, electric vehicle registrations have surged, with over 7,000 units recorded in the first eight months—a 2.5-fold increase from the previous year. Electric vehicles now account for 10.6% of new registrations, with Chinese electric models making up 7% of the market.

In Switzerland, consumer preferences for vehicle colors are shifting toward neutrality. Black, white, and gray now account for approximately 80% of new car registrations. This represents a major departure from 1985, when red was the most popular color at nearly 23%. Current data shows red has dropped to 3.8%, while blue and green hold 9% and 5.3% respectively. Experts suggest this global trend toward “timeless” colors is driven by manufacturers seeking to appeal to a broader buyer base.
