Automotive polishing products and machines undergo performance testing

Automotive detailing products and equipment have been evaluated for effectiveness in vehicle maintenance. Testing of all-in-one polishes conducted by auto motor und sport at the Sonax laboratory revealed mixed results. While some products achieved a ‘good’ rating, others were rated as ‘satisfactory’ or ‘sufficient.’

A notable finding was that all tested universal polishes reacted poorly with polycarbonate headlight lenses, causing cracks in the material, with the Dr. Wack product showing the most significant damage. Performance in scratch removal varied; Sonax, Liqui Moly, and Dr. Wack performed relatively well, whereas Nigrin resulted in a grey haze.

The Sonax Xtreme Ceramic Politur All-in-One received the highest score of 79 out of 100, earning a ‘good’ rating for its handling, appearance, and long-term effects. Liqui Moly’s Hochglanzpolitur followed in second place with 70 points.

In terms of hardware, various polishing machines were reviewed for DIY use. A 20-piece set featuring the Chemicalworkz DA9 orbital polisher, Sonax polishes, and Royal Pads was highlighted as a suitable option for hobbyists looking to polish and seal their own vehicles.
