Automotive technology advances in AI safety and video IP certification

Keysight Technologies and the University of York’s Centre for Assuring Autonomy (CfAA) have launched a research collaboration to improve AI safety validation for software-defined vehicles (SDVs). The partnership aims to bridge the gap between academic research and practical engineering by developing methodologies for structured AI safety cases. This work focuses on creating evidence-driven approaches to meet ISO/PAS 8800 requirements and designing frameworks for auditable safety evidence to support the deployment of intelligent automotive systems.

In a separate development in automotive semiconductor technology, Chips&Media has achieved ISO 26262 ASIL-B certification for its WAVE6331X FuSa video codec intellectual property (IP). Certified by DNV, the IP is designed to handle safety-critical video processing for functions like object detection and automated driving. The technology includes mechanisms such as real-time cyclic redundancy check protection and instruction-flow monitoring to detect hardware faults or data corruption, allowing the system to transition to a safe state if anomalies are detected.
