Ecuador automotive and construction sectors show varied trends

The Ecuadorian construction sector reported a 51% increase in billing during the first 14 days of October, reaching USD 367.9 million. This growth significantly outpaced the 18.4% increase in overall national economic activity for the same period. While housing reserves rose by 28% between January and April 2026, some indicators remain below pre-pandemic levels.

In the automotive sector, the Automundo 2026 exhibition in Quito highlighted a shift toward hybrid and electric mobility. Brands such as Jetour, JAC Motors, and iCAUR presented several plug-in hybrid (PHEV) and electric models featuring high horsepower and extended ranges exceeding 1,000 kilometers. This follows a significant trend in Ecuador, where 10,073 fully electric vehicles were sold between January and September 2026, representing a 273.9% increase compared to the previous year.
