Pope Leo XIV South American tour preparations underway

Pope Leo XIV is scheduled to conduct a South American tour in November 2026, including visits to Argentina, Uruguay, and Peru. In Argentina, the visit is set for November 8–11, with planned stops in Buenos Aires, Luján, and Córdoba. This marks the first papal visit to the country in nearly four decades.

In preparation, the Argentine Episcopal Conference has launched a national fundraising campaign on August 22–23 to support the logistics of the trip. Meanwhile, Argentine Deputy Jorge Taiana has proposed declaring November 9–11 as non-working days to facilitate public participation. Security forces in Córdoba have already begun coordinating large-scale safety operations.

In Peru, local authorities in Cusco are calling for accelerated infrastructure and road maintenance to accommodate expected crowds. In the northern region of Chiclayo, officials have raised concerns regarding a shortage of hotel capacity and poor road conditions to meet the anticipated influx of over one million visitors.
