Autonomous mobility advances through energy partnerships and AI innovation
Developments in autonomous mobility are advancing through new energy partnerships and artificial intelligence breakthroughs. In Mexico, Clarios and its brand LTH have partnered with Bloom Drive Intelligence and the Tecnológico de Monterrey to support research into automation and electrification. This collaboration focuses on the critical energy requirements of autonomous vehicles, which must power not only propulsion but also complex sensor suites including LiDAR, cameras, and control units. A key project involves the MIA (Mobility, Intelligence, Autonomy) vehicle, an electric Polaris GEM E6 modified to operate at SAE Level 4 autonomy, utilizing LTH batteries to manage high-tech electronic demands.
Simultaneously, researchers at the Miguel Hernández University of Elche (UMH) have developed a pioneering artificial intelligence model designed to improve how autonomous vehicles perceive their surroundings. Using causal learning, the model can estimate in real-time the relevance of various objects—such as pedestrians, traffic cones, and other vehicles—to the driving decision. Unlike previous methods that relied on indirect criteria or manual annotation, this approach directly measures how much each object influences the vehicle’s driving actions, allowing for more efficient and safer decision-making processes.
