Autonomous trucks operate on Dallas to Oklahoma City route

Autonomous heavy-duty trucks are currently operating on a 320 km route between Dallas, Texas, and Oklahoma City in the United States. Approximately 300 trucks perform daily industrial cargo transport using level 4 autonomous driving technology.

Operated by Volvo Autonomous Solutions, the Volvo VNL trucks utilize the Aurora Drive system. This technology integrates electronic sensors, Lidar, microwave radar, and cameras to manage essential driving functions such as braking, acceleration, steering, and obstacle avoidance. While the vehicles are equipped with pedals and a steering wheel, they operate independently of human steering, with a driver on board primarily to monitor the operation.
