Autumn flora highlights at Cluj-Napoca Botanical Garden
The Alexandru Borza Botanical Garden in Cluj-Napoca is showcasing various seasonal plants during the autumn months. A notable feature is the blooming of saffron (Crocus sativus), one of the world's most expensive spices. The plant requires approximately 150 flowers to produce just one gram of dried saffron, as each flower yields only three red stigmas.
In addition to saffron, the garden features Cynara cardunculus and Cyclamen hederifolium. Other seasonal highlights include Helenium autumnale, also known as Helen's flower, a perennial North American plant that produces colorful blooms from July through October. The garden is open daily from 09:00 to 19:00, with specific hours for the greenhouses and botanical museum.
