Autumn foliage peaks in Abruzzo's Teramo and Chieti provinces

Autumn foliage in the Abruzzo regions of Teramo and Chieti is expected to peak between late October and mid-November. In the province of Teramo, the best viewing areas include Pietracamela, Fonte Novello, and Prati di Tivo. Visitors are advised that altitude significantly affects timing; higher elevations near the Gran Sasso massif change color earlier than lower hills.

In the province of Chieti, the most intense colors are found on the slopes of the Maiella and in the forests surrounding Pretoro, Palombaro, Fara San Martino, Guardiagrele, and Rapino. The optimal window for the Maiella area is typically the last week of October, particularly at altitudes above 1,000–1,200 meters. For those seeking chestnut and oak groves, November may offer continued color at lower elevations.

Photography enthusiasts are encouraged to visit in the early morning for sharp light or between 3:00 PM and 5:00 PM to capture deeper copper and ochre tones, avoiding the harsh midday sun.
