Autumn foods pose health risks when consumed in excess

Consuming certain seasonal autumn foods in excess can lead to significant health risks. For instance, overeating ginkgo nuts may cause poisoning symptoms such as vomiting, diarrhea, respiratory distress, and convulsions. The Tokyo Metropolitan Health and Medical Bureau has noted cases where individuals experienced systemic convulsions or tremors after consuming large quantities.

Persimmons also present a dual nature. While research from Kindai University suggests that persimmon polyphenols may help suppress postprandial blood glucose levels, and studies involving Wakayama Prefecture's harvests show that persimmon tannins can reduce LDL cholesterol, excessive consumption remains a concern for overall health.
