September 2026 full moon to mark the start of autumn

The first full moon of autumn will occur on Saturday, September 26, 2026, providing a significant celestial display across various regions.

In the Canary Islands, the astronomical peak is expected at 17:49, though the moon will rise later, around 19:42 in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, allowing for viewing as the sky darkens. In Greece, specifically in Patra, the full moon reaches its peak at 19:49, with the moon rising around 19:06, offering ideal conditions for photography near the coastline.

In Guatemala, astronomer Edgar Castro from the Universidad Galileo notes that while the moon will be approximately 383,000 kilometers from Earth, it will not be a ‘supermoon,’ as that phenomenon is expected closer to October 1. The moon will appear in the constellation Pisces, near Saturn and Neptune. In the Northern Hemisphere, this event is traditionally referred to as the ‘Harvest Moon.’
