Autumn hazards for dogs during seasonal walks
Pet owners are advised to be cautious during autumn walks due to various environmental hazards that can affect dogs. Damp and decaying leaf piles may hide mold and bacteria, which can lead to digestive issues if ingested.
Certain seasonal plants pose significant risks. Acorns can cause nausea, digestive complications, or even choking and intestinal blockages. Additionally, wild chestnuts are toxic to dogs and can result in vomiting, diarrhea, and abdominal pain. Owners are urged to seek veterinary assistance immediately if ingestion is suspected.
Moist autumn weather also promotes the growth of mushrooms. Because many toxic mushrooms are difficult to distinguish from safe varieties by sight alone, owners should remain vigilant in forests, parks, and gardens.
