Autumn hazards pose risks to dogs

During the autumn months, dog owners should be cautious of various natural items found in parks, forests, and gardens that can pose significant health risks to pets. Wild mushrooms are among the most dangerous hazards, as they can cause vomiting, diarrhea, neurological issues, or severe damage to the liver and kidneys. Experts advise keeping dogs close in mushroom-heavy areas, as even identification by specialists can be difficult.

Other seasonal items like acorns and chestnuts also present risks. Acorns contain tannins that can lead to poisoning, including kidney and liver damage, depending on the quantity consumed. Additionally, fresh green walnuts can harbor invisible toxic molds that are harmful to a dog's internal organs. Owners are encouraged to monitor their pets for symptoms such as lethargy, tremors, or changes in thirst and urination, and to contact a veterinarian immediately if ingestion of unknown substances is suspected.
