Autumn in Lika festival celebrates Croatian livestock and local producers
The annual Autumn in Lika festival in Croatia featured traditional livestock exhibitions and agricultural competitions, celebrating regional excellence in animal breeding and food production.
In the livestock category, champion animals were crowned among the Croatian coldblood, Posavac, and Buša breeds. The 6th Croatian coldblood horse exhibition showcased 58 animals from 35 breeders. Notable winners included Petar Jelinić, who secured first place in the mare collection and the stallion category, and Milan Amić, who took top honors for older stallions.
Simultaneously, gold awards were presented to producers of honey, cheese, fruit brandies, liqueurs, and preserves. The honey competition, conducted by the Faculty of Agriculture at the University of Zagreb, recognized ten producers. In the dairy category, Igor Tomaić’s Sirana Runolist was named quality champion for its soft cow cheese, while Velebitski cheese also received gold honors. Other awards were given for fruit liqueurs, jams, and wild rose spreads, highlighting the high quality of local artisanal products.
