Autumn seasonal changes in Czech nature and gardens

Autumn brings a vibrant transformation to the Czech landscape, characterized by changing colors in forests, peatlands, and gardens. In natural areas like the Černohorský marsh and Jizera Mountains, various species exhibit striking shifts, such as bilberry bushes turning orange-red and aspen trees transitioning from green to bright orange and yellow.

In gardens, the season offers opportunities for both observation and maintenance. Fallen leaves serve a biological purpose, protecting soil organisms and sensitive plant roots from frost before eventually decomposing into humus. Wildlife, including hedgehogs, also utilize the season to forage and prepare for winter hibernation. While trees like linden and ornamental grasses like Miscanthus sinensis move nutrients to their roots, the season remains a period of visual richness before the onset of frost.
