Autumn travel challenges reported in Poland
Autumn brings various logistical and safety challenges across Poland, ranging from infrastructure maintenance to unpredictable mountain weather.
In the Podkarpacie region, roadwork is causing disruptions on key routes. On National Road 9 (DK9) between Rzeszów and Tarnobrzeg, maintenance including mowing and roadside works is underway, leading to speed limits of 50 km/h. Specifically, in Widełka, construction of public exits has resulted in lane narrowings on the route toward Rzeszów. Additionally, regional road DW875 remains a high-traffic area for commuters in the Kolbuszowa and Mielec areas.
In the Tatra Mountains, hikers are facing deceptive seasonal conditions. While lower elevations may appear accessible, snow has appeared at higher altitudes, creating inconsistent terrain. Reports indicate that while some ridges have hard snow, valleys and gullies are experiencing very soft snow that can cause travelers to sink up to their waists. Experts advise that sunny weather does not guarantee easy conditions and recommend carrying winter equipment such as crampons, as requirements vary significantly between different peaks and trails.
