France weather: Storm Adam triggers flood alerts in the south

France is facing significant weather disruptions this week, characterized by a Mediterranean storm episode and an approaching Atlantic depression. In the southeast, Météo-France has issued orange alerts for rain, flooding, and storms in several departments, including Ardèche, Gard, Hérault, Vaucluse, Bouches-du-Rhône, Var, and Haute-Corse.

The current weather event is linked to Storm Adam, which was named by meteorological services in Spain. This system is bringing torrential rains, with totals in the Cévennes region expected to reach between 150mm and 200mm. Residents in areas like Laudun l’Ardoise have already faced preventive road closures and school suspensions due to flood risks.

Looking ahead to the end of the week, a second weather system is expected to bring increased wind activity. A depression moving through the English Channel could trigger storm conditions in northern France by Friday, October 23, with wind gusts potentially exceeding 90 km/h inland and reaching 120-130 km/h on the coast.
