Autumn waste management: Chemical disposal and garden waste collection

As autumn cleaning begins, residents in Hungary and Romania are being advised on the proper disposal of seasonal waste.

In Hungary, MOHU regulations emphasize that chemicals such as solvents, pesticides, paints, and lacquers must be treated as hazardous waste. These materials should not be disposed of in regular trash or poured into drains; instead, they should be taken to waste collection centers, though residents are encouraged to check specific local acceptance criteria and quantity limits first.

In Sepsiszentgyörgy, Romania, the Tega sanitation company has resumed its ‘Green Route’ service to collect garden waste. Residents can place leaves in transparent bags and tied branches at their gates for free collection. The service is limited to the town of Sepsiszentgyörgy and does not extend to surrounding villages. Residents may also personally deliver organic waste to the collection center on Energia utca for free disposal.
