Avalanches releases new instrumental EP ‘Fragile’

The French instrumental trio Avalanches has released their new EP, titled ‘Fragile’. Based in Nantes, the band consists of David Poiraudeau on guitar, Guillaume Pastemps on drums, and Nicolas Bertrand on bass.

The group’s musical style occupies the space between the cinematic dynamics of post-rock and the physical weight of metal. Their sound is characterized by contrasts, such as heavy riffs paired with suspended melodies and progressive structures alongside immediate hooks. The band aims to balance aggression with moderation, avoiding excessive technicality in favor of a more atmospheric approach.

This release builds upon the conceptual themes introduced in their debut EP, ‘Megalithe’. While their previous work explored the image of colossal masses suspended in space, ‘Fragile’ delves deeper into the idea that what appears immutable can fracture, and what seems permanent can collapse. The music is described as heavy without being relentlessly brutal, and cinematic without serving merely as background music.
