Avantium completes purification unit commissioning at FDCA plant
Avantium has completed the commissioning of the purification unit at its FDCA Flagship Plant in Delfzijl, the Netherlands. This milestone means all major process units at the facility are now operational, marking a significant step toward the full start-up of the world’s first commercial-scale plant for producing furandicarboxylic acid (FDCA).
Following the previous commissioning of utility systems, the sugar dehydration unit, and the oxidation unit, the company is now shifting its focus toward producing the first batches of FDCA. For the remainder of 2026, Avantium intends to concentrate on integrated start-up activities, completing qualification processes, and preparing for commercial sales under existing offtake agreements.
Commercial deliveries are expected to begin by the end of 2026, pending successful start-up and product qualification. The company anticipates that ramping up to full design capacity will take approximately 24 months following the initial start-up.
