Avantium shareholders vote on 55 million euro capital increase

Avantium shareholders are meeting to vote on a capital increase of at least 55 million euros through the issuance of new shares. The company aims to complete this emission in the fourth quarter of the year. Additionally, Avantium is seeking a 20 million euro convertible loan from the Northern Netherlands Development Agency (NOM), which represents the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate Policy and the province of Groningen.

The company's cash position decreased from 57.5 million euros at the end of 2025 to 23.9 million euros as of June 30, 2026. Recent financial reports show revenue declined from 6.7 million euros to 4.7 million euros, partly due to lower sales in the R&D Solutions division as chemical industry customers reduced budgets amid geopolitical uncertainty in the Middle East. The company reported an EBITDA loss of 18.8 million euros.

On the operational side, Avantium has produced its first batch of FDCA at its new facility in Delfzijl. Production is expected to scale up gradually, with full design capacity anticipated within 12 to 24 months. The company has secured 23 off-take agreements and 17 capacity reservation agreements for the flagship plant. Furthermore, an agreement was reached with Worley regarding outstanding issues at the new factory, including repairs and claims.
