Sweden sees shifts in labor hiring and interest rate forecasts
The Swedish labor market is experiencing a shift as more companies increasingly rely on hired expertise and contract work rather than permanent employment to manage seasonal peaks. This trend is particularly evident in the logistics and manufacturing sectors, where businesses use external staffing to handle fluctuations in demand without incurring long-term costs. According to Kompetensföretagen, the number of hired employees has risen steadily, driven by both corporate needs and a younger workforce seeking greater flexibility.
In the financial sector, the Riksbank has maintained the policy rate at 1.75 percent, but forecasts suggest a rising interest rate environment through 2026 and 2027. This shift is attributed to a strengthening Swedish economy, a weaker krona, and higher energy prices. Experts advise export companies to develop robust financing strategies to mitigate the impact of increasing costs.
Meanwhile, the online bank Avanza continues to show strong profitability and growth despite recent stock price pressure linked to concerns over AI impact. The company reported a 31 percent increase in operating profit in the second quarter and maintains a policy of distributing 70 percent of its profits to shareholders.
