Avşar Grape heritage celebrated through national photography competition
A national photography competition has been launched in the Avşar neighborhood of the Acıpayam district in Denizli to promote the region's cultural heritage and its 800-year-old grape cultivation tradition. The competition, supported by the Turkish Photography Art Federation (TFSF), began on July 31, 2026.
The event follows the official registration of the ‘Avşar Grape’ as a geographical indication by the Turkish Patent and Trademark Office on April 3, 2026. Local leaders and academics, including Prof. Dr. Turgut Tok, noted that this registration serves to protect and pass down the ancestral heritage to future generations.
Photographers from across Turkey have begun visiting the area to capture the natural beauty, daily life, and the production stages of the grapes. Local officials expressed satisfaction with the increased interest in the village's traditions and its unique agricultural products.
