Sugar industry investigation launched across 8 Turkish provinces

Turkish authorities have launched a major investigation into the starch-based sugar industry following allegations of quota violations and market manipulation. The probe, coordinated by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, was initiated after audits by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry and the Ministry of Treasury and Finance identified irregularities in production and sales.

Investigators found that several companies allegedly bypassed the Sugar Law's quota and domestic sales restrictions by selling products intended for the domestic market through intermediary firms. To conceal these activities, companies reportedly used deceptive invoicing practices, labeling products as maltodextrin, glucose, starch, or fructose to hide their true nature.

The operation spanned eight provinces, including Istanbul, Ankara, Izmir, and Adana. Law enforcement conducted simultaneous searches at 26 locations belonging to 25 different companies, seizing various documents and digital materials. As part of the ongoing legal process, 47 company executives have been summoned to provide statements to authorities.
