Avcılar missing person identified after 9 years
The body of Oğuzhan Tekin, who disappeared in the Avcılar district of Istanbul in December 2017, has been identified through DNA testing. After Tekin went missing on December 16, 2017, a male body was discovered in the sea 12 days later. Because the identity could not be established at the time, the body was held at the Forensic Medicine Institute for 15 days before being buried in a pauper's cemetery.
Following a recent investigation by the Missing Persons Bureau, the family was called to provide DNA samples. Tests conducted on Tekin’s father, Adem Tekin, and his brother, Tunahan Tekin, showed a 99.9% match with the remains recovered from the cemetery. The family has expressed outrage that the body was buried without attempting to match DNA with the family members who had filed a missing person report in the same district years prior, and they are calling for an investigation into the alleged negligence.
