Turkey: Diverse stories of recovery and struggle following earthquakes

Various human interest stories emerge from Turkey, highlighting the long-term social and physical consequences of the February 2023 earthquakes and regional challenges.

In Hatay, 18-year-old Münir Basri, a Syrian refugee who survived both the civil war and the earthquakes, has successfully qualified for medical school after studying intensely at home. Despite facing financial hurdles due to his non-citizen status, he aims to serve the Turkish people as a doctor.

Conversely, 25-year-old Barış Özbay, who lost his home and relatives in the earthquake, has struggled with severe social isolation and digital addiction. Following a three-month hospital treatment, Özbay has returned to his home in Antakya but continues to reject medication and maintain a lifestyle centered on mobile devices and computers.
