Aveiro's FARAV craft fair revives tradition in Rossio

The FARAV (Feira de Artesanato de Aveiro) opened on 24 July and will run until 2 August in the Jardim do Rossio, a central plaza in Aveiro, Portugal. It is organized by the municipal chamber and the Associação de Artesãos da Região de Aveiro (A Barrica). The fair gathers dozens of artisans from across the country who display traditional and contemporary products such as leather, ceramics, textiles, glass, jewellery, wood, wicker and other crafts, alongside stalls offering regional gastronomy.

Daily cultural programming includes folk‑dance groups, live demonstrations of craft techniques and other events meant to promote and preserve the local heritage. The event marks the revival of a historic market that had been absent for years; Evaristo Silva, president of A Barrica, called the restart a learning process and voiced hopes for future growth and international participation.
