Avellaneda Council commemorates 60th anniversary of Operativo Cóndor
The Avellaneda City Council held its sixteenth ordinary session of the 113th legislative period, during which it officially declared the 60th anniversary of ‘Operativo Cóndor’ to be of legislative, cultural, and historical interest.
Operativo Cóndor took place on September 28, 1966, when a group of 18 young Argentines, led by Dardo Cabo, diverted an Aerolíneas Argentinas domestic flight to land in the Falkland Islands. The group deployed Argentine flags to assert national sovereignty over the archipelago.
The commemorative session included Norberto Karaciewicz, identified by the Council as the sole survivor of the operation, along with representatives from the Asociación 2 de Abril, the Asociación Civil Combatientes de Malvinas, and the Centro de Estudios Dardo Cabo.
