Avellino celebrates Saint Alfonso feast and raises Madonna Assunta banner

From July 31 to August 2 the parish of Sant’Alfonso Maria de’ Liguori in Avellino hosted the traditional patronal celebrations for Saint Alfonso. The program combined nightly liturgical events—including Eucharistic adoration, blessings of cars and motorcycles, and concelebrated Masses presided over by bishops Arturo Aiello, Sergio Melillo, Antonio De Luca, and Alfonso Amarante—with a civic schedule featuring the second edition of the “Il Giardino degli Artigiani” craft fair, live music, art exhibitions by Leonardo Robustelli, and concerts by local ensembles.

On July 1 the mayor, Nello Pizza, and Bishop Arturo Aiello performed the historic “Alzata del Pannetto” of the Madonna Assunta in Piazza Libertà, formally opening the three‑week period leading to the mid‑August feast. Pizza pledged to care for Avellino, emphasizing community unity and the preservation of local traditions.
