Avellino faces pest infestation and heatwave emergencies

The city of Avellino is facing dual challenges regarding public health and safety. Local councilor Marco Pericolo has issued a formal warning to the municipality, the ASL of Avellino, and the Prefecture regarding an unsanitary situation involving pervasive insects and sewer rats. The infestation has reportedly spread from public streets and parks, such as the San Tommaso district, into private residences.

Pericolo is demanding immediate extraordinary interventions, including deratization, disinfection, and an intensive cleaning plan for streets and sewers. He has also called for technical inspections by health authorities to assess the degradation.

Simultaneously, the Municipality of Avellino and the Social Territory A04 have activated emergency support services due to a heatwave. The Pronto Intervento Sociale (PIS) is operating 24/7 to assist vulnerable populations, including the elderly and chronically ill. Services include continuous telephone monitoring and the home delivery of groceries and life-saving medications.
