Avellino honors victims of Nazi deportation with Medals of Honor

In Avellino, 21 Medals of Honor were presented to the families of citizens from the province who were deported and interned in Nazi concentration camps following September 8, 1943. The awards, conferred by the President of the Republic, recognize Italian military personnel and civilians who were captured by German troops and forced into labor for the Third Reich's war economy.

During the ceremony held at the Prefecture, Prefect Franca Fico emphasized the importance of preserving the memory of these individuals to pass their history on to younger generations. The event included musical performances by students from the 'Domenico Cimarosa' Conservatory of Avellino, dedicated to the history of war and deportation.
