Avellino implements drone surveillance to ban agricultural burning
The Municipality of Avellino has launched a new surveillance plan to permanently ban the practice of burning agricultural waste. To enforce this, the administration will deploy urban police, environmental guard volunteers, and drones to monitor high-risk areas. The initiative aims to reduce CO2 emissions and improve public health.
To assist citizens and farmers during this transition, the city is investigating paid collection services for crop residues. Additionally, the administration is collaborating with the Comieco consortium to study non-recyclable waste production, with the long-term goal of reducing disposal costs and lowering local waste taxes (Tari).
