Avellino prosecutors investigate deaths of pregnant nurse and unborn son

Authorities in Avellino have opened an investigation into the deaths of Giovanna Lo Chiatto, a 32-year-old nurse, and her unborn son, Francesco. The woman, originally from Forino, died suddenly in her home in Mercogliano during her ninth month of pregnancy after experiencing abdominal pain.

Four individuals have been placed on the register of suspects, including medical professionals from the Moscati Hospital in Avellino. Investigators are examining the management of her pregnancy and reviewing all medical and gynecological documentation to determine if there was negligence or if pre-existing pathologies were improperly managed.

The Avellino Prosecutor's Office has scheduled an autopsy for Tuesday, October 6, to establish the exact causes of death. The investigation, coordinated by Deputy Prosecutor Italo De Felice, is currently being handled by the Carabinieri of Avellino.
