Avengers: Doomsday announced with Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom and Tenoch Huerta returning
Marvel Studios revealed that the next Avengers film, titled Avengers: Doomsday, will open in theaters on December 18, 2026. The Russo brothers will direct the crossover event, which brings together the core MCU heroes—including Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Florence Pugh, Vanessa Kirby, Simu Liu, and many others. Robert Downey Jr. returns to the franchise, not as Tony Stark but as the super‑villain Doctor Doom, while Mexican actor Tenoch Huerta reprises his role as Namor, a character he first played in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.
The film is positioned as a multiverse showdown that will require the participation of the Fantastic Four, X‑Men and other teams, a premise echoed in promotional teasers and in interviews with cast members such as Anthony Mackie, who hinted that the movie will feature new, memorable dialogue. In parallel, Marvel’s publishing arm is expanding the storyline through comics: the five‑issue series Black Panther/Namor: Doomed explores the interplay of T'Challa, Namor and Doctor Doom, while the Doomquest miniseries imagines Doctor Doom briefly becoming an Iron‑Man‑style hero in an alternate history. All these elements underscore the film’s ambition to be the MCU’s biggest narrative event of 2026.
