Avengers: Doomsday to skip IMAX for ScreenX format in US release

Marvel Studios’ upcoming film ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ will deviate from its usual theatrical distribution strategy by skipping IMAX screens in the United States for its first three weeks of release. This decision follows an exclusive contract for IMAX domestic screens secured by ‘Dune: Part Three’ during that same window, and Marvel has opted to maintain its December 18 release date.

To compensate, the film will utilize the ScreenX format, marking the first time an Avengers movie will be presented in this 270-degree panoramic viewing experience. ScreenX extends the visual field onto side walls of the theater, providing additional details not visible in standard aspect ratios.

Narratively, the film is expected to draw inspiration from the ‘Time Runs Out’ comic book storyline, which serves as a foundation for the broader Marvel Cinematic Universe events leading toward ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’.
