Aventura Amazonia park in Pelayos closes after wildfire, affecting local tourism

The Aventura Amazonia adventure park in Pelayos, part of the Sierra Oeste leisure area near Madrid, announced a temporary closure following a recent wildfire that devastated the surrounding forest. Director General Gustavo Alonso said, “Necesitamos hacer un estudio del arbolado, para saber con exactitud qué volumen forestal no ha sobrevivido al incendio,” adding that without trees the park cannot operate. He expressed the emotional impact, noting, “Lo que sentimos estos días es difícil de expresar… Cada árbol representaba una historia, un recuerdo y un compromiso con la naturaleza.”

The park, which has been active for 17 years and attracted more than 500,000 visitors, is evaluating whether enough trees have survived to rebuild the infrastructure for a possible reopening around Easter. In the meantime, reservations for the summer have been redirected to the larger Cercedilla park in the Parque Nacional de la Sierra de Guadarrama. Financial assistance so far is limited to €5,000, far short of the park’s estimated €800,000 value, highlighting the economic strain on the local tourism sector.
