Averof Neophytou announces 2028 presidential candidacy

Averof Neophytou held his first press conference in Nicosia following his announcement as a candidate for the 2028 Presidential Elections. The event occurred shortly after DISY President Annita Demetriou also announced her candidacy for the party's nomination.

Neophytou stated that his decision to run is driven by two primary political pillars: the handling of the Cyprus problem and the economic policies currently implemented by the government of Nicos Christodoulides. Regarding the internal party processes for selecting the DISY candidate, Neophytou emphasized that while he is aware of the procedures, he intends to focus on the substance of major political issues facing the country.

During the conference, Neophytou did not rule out the possibility of discussions with President Demetriou. The press conference coincided with an announcement from DISY's Executive Bureau regarding the submission of candidacies to the Political Bureau.
