Aversa mayor ousts vice mayor Alfonso Oliva over alleged misconduct

Mayor Franco Matacena of Aversa faced criticism from opposition parties but found common ground in condemning vice mayor Alfonso Oliva. The municipal council removed Oliva, describing his tenure as marked by administrative incompetence and waste of public funds. Critics highlighted that Oliva earned about €3,400 per month, totaling €81,600 in two years, while allegedly failing to perform basic duties. Both the Lega and Fratelli d'Italia parties labeled the dismissal a “choice of convenience” and accused Oliva of betraying the centre‑right coalition.

The removal is portrayed by supporters as a necessary step to restore effective governance in the city, with Matacena emphasizing the need for a capable administration after what they called “the worst component of a stagnant council.”
