Avery Anna wins debut race at Geelong

Avery Anna secured a debut victory in the Ladbrokes Popular SRM Maiden Plate at Geelong on Wednesday. The race featured three first-time starters in a closely contested finish.

Prepared by the partnership of Leon and Troy Corstens and Will Larkin, Avery Anna entered the race as an outsider with odds drifting from $3.80 to $5. Guided by jockey Craig Williams, the filly won by a narrow half-head margin over the $2.30 favourite, Voltrix. Big Lap finished third, trailing by a similar margin.

Trainer Will Larkin noted that while the filly showed significant ability, she still requires maturity and experience, suggesting she is approximately six months away from her peak. Jockey Craig Williams also commented on her strong performance, noting she possesses a “good motor” despite lacking full race-day polish.
