Avezzano advances urban wellness and cycling path projects
The municipality of Avezzano is advancing several urban development and wellness initiatives. The administration has launched a “wellness map” project to identify and classify public green spaces suitable for outdoor sports. This technical collaboration, led by physiotherapist and lecturer Marco Scalisi, aims to promote physical activity such as running, calisthenics, and mobility exercises to prevent chronic diseases and improve mental health.
Simultaneously, the city is working to complete the “Via delle Stelle,” a 10-kilometer pedestrian and cycling path. The project repurposes former railway tracks that once served the local sugar refinery, connecting the city center to the industrial zone. Following the successful completion of the first section, the administration aims to award the contract for the second phase—stretching from via Celano to via Newton—by this autumn. The path will feature modern lighting to allow for use after sunset, transforming the historical route into an urban boulevard.
