Avezzano court sentences man to prison for extortion and abuse
The Court of Avezzano has sentenced a 31-year-old man to three years and six months in prison for a series of crimes involving mistreatment and extortion against his parents.
According to the court proceedings, the man repeatedly demanded money from his family to fund drug purchases, using threats and violence. The charges included assaulting his father, damaging household furniture, and stealing goods to resell. In one severe incident in January 2026, the man allegedly brandished a prohibited weapon and threw objects at his family during a dispute over money.
The defendant had previously been subject to an arrest warrant and court-ordered restrictions, including the use of an electronic bracelet and a requirement to maintain a distance of at least one kilometer from his parents. The court recognized certain mitigating circumstances but ordered the defendant to remain in custody.
