Avezzano to begin Corso della Libertà urban redevelopment

Renovation works are scheduled to begin on Monday, September 28, on Corso della Libertà in Avezzano. The project aims to transform the approximately 320-meter stretch into an urban ‘living room’ designed for pedestrians, social interaction, and commerce, creating a continuous link between Piazza Matteotti and Piazza Risorgimento.

To facilitate the construction of the 5,000 square meter area, significant traffic modifications will be implemented. Corso della Libertà will be closed to traffic between via Mons. Domenico Valerii and Piazza Giacomo Matteotti. Additionally, a section of Piazza Giacomo Matteotti will be closed, and via Tevere will become a two-way street with parking restrictions for non-residents. Public transport stops managed by SCAV will be temporarily relocated to via Montello.

The municipality plans to ensure access to local businesses and homes by establishing protected pedestrian corridors approximately 1.5 meters wide during the initial phases. While driving access to certain areas may be restricted, the project intends to minimize disruptions to essential services such as water, gas, and telephone lines.
