Avi Gil accuses Netanyahu of withholding intelligence and tampering with records

Avi Gil, the former military secretary to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, has leveled serious allegations regarding the handling of the October 7 attacks and subsequent documentation. In several interviews, Gil claimed that Netanyahu withheld critical intelligence and that documents provided to the State Comptroller do not reflect the full reality of the events.

Gil further alleged that Tzachi Braverman, the Prime Minister's Chief of Staff, attempted to manipulate phone call records from the morning of October 7. Specifically, he claimed an attempt was made to change the timestamp of a call occurring between 06:40 and 06:44 to 06:29 to align it with the start of the attacks. Following Gil's report to the Attorney General, Israeli police launched an investigation into the suspected tampering with cabinet meeting minutes and phone transcripts.

Additionally, Gil stated that Netanyahu had received a formal war warning from Shin Bet Director Ronen Bar in July 2023 but failed to hold an urgent meeting in response. He also accused the Prime Minister of prioritizing political survival over hostage rescue deals. The Prime Minister's Office has denied these allegations.
