Avian influenza detected in Rogaland, Norway

Avian influenza has been detected at a poultry facility in Klepp municipality, Rogaland. As a result, the Norwegian Food Safety Authority (Mattilsynet) has ordered the culling of 7,500 birds to prevent further spread and ensure animal welfare.

Mattilsynet has established a three-kilometer protection zone and a ten-kilometer monitoring zone around the affected farm. An infected zone has been implemented covering Stavanger, Randaberg, Sola, Sandnes (excluding former Forsand), Klepp, Time, and Hå.

The Norwegian Institute of Public Health assesses the risk of transmission to humans as very low, though infection is possible through close, unprotected contact with sick or dead birds. Authorities advise the public to avoid touching sick or dead birds and to report any sightings to Mattilsynet.
