Avian influenza found in wild birds in Brazil and Chile

The São Paulo state government confirmed a case of highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) in a wild bird (Dendrocygna viduata) found in Ibirapuera Park, São Paulo, Brazil. Authorities said the incident is isolated, poses no risk to poultry production or human health, and that surveillance and preventive measures are ongoing.

In Chile, the Agricultural and Livestock Service (SAG) reported a new H5 HPAI case in a wild bird (Cathartes aura) in the city of Iquique, Tarapacá. The bird was detected after a community report, and officials emphasized that the region remains free of poultry outbreaks, urging backyard‑bird owners to strengthen biosecurity and report any suspicious birds.
