Avian influenza outbreaks detected in France, Bulgaria, and Sweden

New outbreaks of highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) have been detected in European poultry flocks, specifically affecting duck populations in France, Bulgaria, and Sweden. The outbreaks in France and Bulgaria have impacted more than 21,500 birds.

In response, the European Commission has established restricted and danger zones in the Plovdiv region of Bulgaria, the Maine-et-Loire department in France, and parts of the Tanum municipality in Sweden. These measures include controls on the movement of poultry and poultry products to prevent further spread.

Experts warn that the situation is urgent, particularly as the autumn migration of wild birds poses a significant risk for transporting the virus between regions. Farmers are being urged to strengthen biosecurity measures and limit contact between domestic poultry and wild birds.
