Avianca Cargo receives GDP Pharma certification for Spanish operations

Avianca Cargo has obtained the Good Distribution Practices (GDP) Pharma certification for its operations in Madrid and Barcelona. According to the company, it is the first airline in the Americas to receive this certification, which was issued by the independent certification body SGS.

The certification, based on World Health Organization (WHO) guidelines, validates the handling, storage, distribution, and transport of pharmaceutical products, including vaccines and other temperature-sensitive medicines. The certification process for the Spanish operations took approximately six months and ensures traceability and risk management throughout the logistics chain.

Avianca Cargo, a subsidiary of the Abra Group, intends to use Madrid and Barcelona as consolidation points for pharmaceutical cargo originating from various European markets. The company plans to extend this GDP Pharma certification to its operations in London, Paris, and Lisbon by 2027 to further expand its specialized European network.
