Avianca expands routes and receives sustainability award

Avianca Costa Rica S.A. has received authorization to operate a new international regular air service connecting San José, Costa Rica, via Bogotá, Colombia, to Buenos Aires, Argentina. Scheduled to begin in March 2027, the route will feature seven weekly flights using aircraft with a capacity of approximately 180 passengers. This expansion follows a bilateral agreement between Argentina and Costa Rica aimed at increasing flight frequencies and strengthening tourism and commercial ties.

Separately, the Colombian airline Avianca has been recognized by World Finance for its sustainability strategy in the Ibero-American airline category. The award highlights the company’s ESG (environmental, social, and governance) initiatives, including fleet modernization. Between 2019 and 2024, the airline increased capacity by 18.1% while reducing carbon emission intensity by 19.6%, aided by the integration of Airbus A320neo aircraft.
