Avianca reported that between 1 June and 19 July it carried more than 350,000 passengers between Colombia and the United States, Mexico and Canada as the 2022 FIFA World Cup took place in North America. The airline served ten of the tournament’s sixteen host cities, offering direct flights from Colombia to New York, Miami, Boston, Dallas, Mexico City, Monterrey and Toronto, while routes to Los Angeles, San Francisco and Houston were operated from its hubs in El Salvador and Guatemala.
As the official carrier of the Colombian men’s national team, Avianca flew the team to the tournament’s opening match and back on its return, and attended the farewell match in Bogotá.
